UN Population Division
prepares the official United Nations demographic estimates and projections for all countries and areas of the world, as well as urban and rural areas and major cities, and serve as the standard and consistent set of population figures for use throughout the United Nations system. -
UN Statistics Division
promotes international standards of methods, classifications and definitions used by national agencies and collects, compile and disseminate statistics, in particular in the area of demographic statistics.
Publications
The Demographic Yearbook published by the UNSD disseminates statistics on population size and composition, births, deaths, marriage and divorce on an annual basis.
The UNSD publishes also the Population and Vital Statistics Report presents most recent data on population size (total, male and female) from the latest available census of the population, national official population estimates and the number and rate (births, deaths and infant deaths) for the latest available year within the past 15 years.

The World Population Prospects is a round of global demographic estimates and projections undertaken by the Population Division every two years.
The Population Division is also issuing every two years revised estimates and projections of the urban and rural populations of all countries in the world and of their major urban agglomerations: the World Urbanization Prospects.
